EQUALITY AT WORK PLATFORM

The Equality at Work Platform established under the Ministry of Family and Social Policies of the Turkish Republic and in collaboration with the World Economic Forum (WEF) with two leading businesspersons co-chairing the initiative - Ferit F. Şahenk and Güler Sabancı, and started its studies with a launch meeting on January 15, 2013.

The aim of the platform has been determined as to bring the business world leaders together to ensure gender equality. Platform members, being a part of the task group created under the roof of World Economic Forum to fight against gender inequality and aiming to minimize gender gap in the economic area in Türkiye, started their studies to change the prevailing situation in business, which is in favor of men, by including more women in business life, increasing the efficiency of women in decision-making processes and ensuring that they benefit from equal opportunities and resources.

The goal of the 3-year project is to increase the participation of women in the business work force in Türkiye and to reduce the gender gap in Türkiye economic contributions and opportunities to 10 percent. As a first step of the project, the primary target of the work group created within the Holding was determined as to start a reporting system. With support of the reporting system created to analyze current situation and to build a road map by determining objectives, the following data covering the year 2013 was achieved:

  • The percentage of female employees increased from 49% to 50% when compared to last year.

  • The percentage of promoted female employees increased by 3%.

  • The percentage of female employees on the General Manager and Vice General Manager level increased to 54%.

  • The percentage of female employees recruited in 2013 was 55%, compared to 36% in the previous year.
