Doğuş Children’s Symphonic Orchestra receives an award from JCI

 

Doğuş Children’s Symphonic Orchestra received the "Best Social Responsibility Project in Culture and Arts" Award at the ICSR (International Corporate Social Responsibility) Awards given by JCI (Junior Chamber International) in Istanbul. Speaking at the awards ceremony on Friday, June 5 at the Istanbul Congress Center, Doğuş Holding Head of Corporate Communication Department Deniz Bayel said “We are proud to receive such a meaningful award in the 10th year of our orchestra. Over the last decade, the Doğuş Children’s Symphonic Orchestra reached out to thousands of children who felt a love of music within, and will continue to do so."

Established by the Doğuş Group in 2006 as the first and only national children's symphonic orchestra in Turkey, Doğuş Children’s Symphonic Orchestra received the "Best Social Responsibility Project in Culture and Arts" Award at the ICSR (International Corporate Social Responsibility) Awards given by JCI (Junior Chamber International), an international platform for helping youths gain social awareness.

ICSR Awards were held by the Junior Chamber International (JCI) for the first time in Turkey this year, and were presented at an awards ceremony on Friday, June 5 at the Istanbul Congress Center. Winners were chosen by a jury panel consisting of JCI global and Turkish representatives, and the award won by Doğuş Children’s Symphonic Orchestra was received on behalf of Doğuş Group by Doğuş Holding Head of Corporate Communication Department Deniz Bayel.

Deniz Bayel: “DCSO gave courage and strength to many young musicians at the start of their journeys in music."

Speaking at the ceremony, Doğuş Holding Head of Corporate Communication Department Deniz Bayel said, "The Doğuş Children’s Symphonic Orchestra is a huge operation that requires immense amounts of work and dedication from the selection of orchestra members to pre-concert training camps, counseling services to support the development of children, and concert organization. We are proud that our orchestra received such a meaningful award in its 10th year, and we are happy to witness its development. Over the last decade, the Doğuş Children’s Symphonic Orchestra reached out to thousands of children who felt a love of music within, and will continue to do so." Explaining that DCSO gave courage and strength to many young musicians at the start of their journeys in music to become a tremendous life-changer, Bayel continued "It is our joy that many young musicians who represent Turkey on a global scale today crossed paths with our orchestra in the path. In 56 concerts over the last decade, we brought more than 800 children together within our orchestra and reached over 70,000 lovers of music. The Doğuş Children’s Symphonic Orchestra gave concerts in 24 cities in Turkey and abroad, introduced symphonic music children and youths through their peers, universal polyphonic music accessible all around the country, and will continue adamantly to do so."

Led by Conductor and Musical Director Professor Rengim Gökmen with psychological counseling by Dr. Erdal Atabek, the Doğuş Children’s Symphonic Orchestra is composed of conservatory students between the ages of 11 and 18, coming from 11 provinces around Turkey.

The entire proceeds of Doğuş Children’s Symphonic Orchestra concerts are donated to a number of educational projects through partnership with the Tohum Autism Foundation. Doğuş Children’s Symphonic Orchestra received “Best Corporate Social Responsibility” award in the 2013 Ace Of M.I.C.E. (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) Awards, and plans to perform a greater number of concerts abroad in the years to come in order to gain more international visibility.

About the Doğuş Children’s Symphonic Orchestra:

Doğuş Children’s Symphonic Orchestra is a part of the Doğuş Group of Companies, and was founded in 2006.

Led by Conductor and Musical Director Professor Rengim Gökmen, the Doğuş Children’s Symphonic Orchestra is composed of conservatory students between the ages of 11 and 18. The objective of the Orchestra is to enable youths and children to experience symphonic music through their peers, and to promote universal polyphonic music.

The Orchestra accompanied many Turkish and international musicians in their concerts. The Orchestra also appeared with the Presidential Symphonic Orchestra of Turkey in a number of projects.

DÇSO has been performing nationwide since 2006, and has been representing Turkey on an international level since 2008.

Doğuş Children’s Symphonic Orchestra received “Best Corporate Social Responsibility” award in the 2013 Ace Of M.I.C.E. (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) Awards held by the Tourism Media Group in 29 categories with 230 entrants. The Orchestra performed 56 concerts in 3 countries (Turkey, Germany and Switzerland) and 24 provinces, reaching more than 70,000 people. So far, the Orchestra has performed in the Turkish provinces of Adana, Ankara, Antalya, Balıkesir, Bodrum, Eskişehir, Erzurum, Giresun, İstanbul, İzmir, Kars, Kayseri, Konya, Mersin, Niğde, Rize, Samsun, Trabzon, Bursa and Edirne, as well as Basel, Switzerland and Munich, Germany.

The Orchestra plans to take part in more international concerts in the years to come, making the voice of contemporary Turkish youths heard on both nationwide and global levels.
