The Seventh D-Marin Turgutreis International Classical Music Festival Ends
1On its closing day, D-Marin Turgutreis International Classical Musical Festival - organized under the founding sponsorship of Doğuş Group - hosted Azeri pianist Terane Abbaszade and soprano Pervin Çakar at the Sunset Concert while the night session joined our renowned pianist Fazıl Say and Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra for the first time with the music lovers of Bodrum. Bidding farewell to Bodrum with the trumpet concerto jointly performed by Fazıl Say and Gabor Boldoczki, the festival offered a complete classical musical feast to the music aficionados coming to this popular resort town not only from the four corners of Turkey but also of the world over the course of 4 days.
Reaching an audience of 5000 in the opening concert where world-famous cellist Mischa Maisky accompanied by Moscow Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra performed, the festival, organized in Bodrum – Turgutreis with the main theme 'from Romanticism to Modernism', saw a total audience of 17.500 as it is announced. Approximately 200 performers took part in the festival which saw a total of 7 'sunset' and 'night' concerts over the course of four days. With reference to the world-class sound system set up in both stages, the festival received credits from the performers and the audience as well.
An unforgettable finale…
Having become a reference organization in its own field both nationally and internationally, D-Marin Turgutreis International Classical Music Festival - on its closing night - hosted our world-renown pianist and composer Fazıl Say who presented his brand-new compositions to the audience with the accompaniment of Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Gürer Aykal. The orchestra performed Fazıl Say's Trumpet Concerto with Gabor Boldoczki (trumpet) as the soloist while Fazıl Say and Gabor Boldoczki jointly played Shostokovich's piano and trumpet concerto as well. And in Fazıl Say's composition named the "Istanbul Symphony", Burcu Karadağ (ney /end-blown flute), Hakan Güngör (kanun) and Aykut Köselerli (percussion) featured as soloists.
Music lovers of Bodrum witnessed an unforgettable finale in the festival bringing together Fazıl Say and Borusan Philharmonic Orchestra for the first time on D-Marin stage.
Two world giants meeting in the opening concert …
Organized under the founding sponsorship of Doğuş Group, D-Marin Turgutreis International Classical Music Festival met with music lovers with a spectacular opening concert. In the seventh edition of the festival, being a European Festivals Association member, world-famous cellist Mischa Maisky received great applause from an audience of nearly 5000 people filling up the concert venue with the performance he presented in the accompaniment of Moscow Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra which is recognized as one of world's best orchestras. Opening the night with Cemal Reşit Rey's "Türkiyem" composition, Moscow Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra conducted by Maestro Vladimir Fedoseyev accompanied the soloist Mischa Maisky on this first night.
Academy of St Martin in the Fields for the first time in Turgutreis…
D-Marin Turgutreis International Classical Music Festival marked the second night with an amazing concert presented by one of world's most famous orchestras, Academy of St Martin in the Fields and the master violinist Julian Rachlin. Performing for the first time in Bodrum, the orchestra received intensive attention from the audience with its repertory comprising famous works of Vivaldi and Piazzola. The orchestra boasting an indisputable significance by global classical music circles with its long-standing background greeted the audience with Antonio Vivaldi's "The Four Seasons - Concerto Series" featuring Rachlin as the soloist. In the second part of the concert Astor Piazzola's "Four Seasons in Buenos Aires" was performed. Having achieved in moving its reputation and success always to the higher for 50 years, the orchestra marked a memorable concert on the second day of the festival with Julian Rachlin who assumed the title of "the youngest violinist performing a concert with the Vienna Philharmonic" at the age of just 13.
Liszt and Mahler were commemorated in D-Marin…
On the third night of the festival the famous composers were commemorated in the company of master performers as part of the "In Memory of Liszt and Mahler" themed concert. On the bicentennial anniversary of his birth, the Hungarian composer Liszt was commemorated with the concert performed by the awarded pianist Endre Hegedüs who performed Liszt's Piano Concerto No.1 accompanied by Istanbul State Symphony Orchestra conducted by the charismatic and world-wide famous maestro of the Hungarian, Ferenc Gabor. Dramatic Soprano Tünde Szaboki, who performs at the most important opera houses of the world and is a Hungarian State Opera Artist, also took to the stage on the third night of the festival to give voice to the Lieds of Liszt, the creator the Lied concept. The concert in which world-renown bass-baritone Burak Bilgili took part to interpret Lieds of Mahler in this centennial anniversary of his demise drew great attention of the music lovers.
Turkey's biggest open air classical music festival…
Having become a reference organization in its own field both nationally and internationally with its membership being admitted by the European Festivals Association two years before, the festival continues to maintain its title as being Turkey's biggest open air classical music festival reaching an audience of 17.500.
Proceeds obtained from the Concerts will be donated to Tohum Autism Foundation…
Having founded Turkey's first children's symphony orchestra, Doğuş Kids Symphony Orchestra; accomplished the restoration of the Concert Hall of the Presidential Symphony Orchestra and undertaking its corporate sponsorship as well as supporting classical music in various areas such as donating musical instruments to Anatolian Fine Arts High Schools, Doğuş Group continues its social responsibility support projects carried out with the proceeds obtained from concerts this year as well. All proceeds from the concerts realized in the seventh edition of D-Marin Turgutreis International Classical Music Festival will be used for educational materials at the Foundation's private school for children with autism and for the training of teachers specialized in this area as part of the cooperation made with Tohum Autism Foundation.
